Queen Elizabeth National Park has close to 100 species of mammals and about 606 types of birds. Large schools of hippos, forest hogs and Uganda kobs are commonly seen on the Mweya Peninsula. The Ishasha sector is famous for tree-climbing lions; Maramagambo forest hosts monkeys and birds; the crater lakes hold thousands of pink flamingos; and Kyambura Gorge is home to habituated chimpanzees. The park covers about 1,978 km² with stunning views of the Rift Valley, Lake Edward and Gorge, and over 95 mammal and 612 bird species.
